mgm grand las vegasMGM Grand is located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. The MGM Grand Poker Room is home to 22 tables. The poker room was recently remodeled and has moved back to its original location, after spending months in a temporary location near the old Lion Habitat that recently closed.

The main game at MGM Grand is a 1/2 No Limit Texas Hold’em game with a $60-$300 buyin range. A 2/4 fixed limit game is also common. During peak times, a 4/8 fixed limit game and 2/5 no limit game with a $200-$1000 buyin range may be found. MGM Grand no longer offers their beginners game, which featured $.50/$1 blinds.

MGM Poker Facilities

The MGM Poker Room offers several amenities, although they lag a bit behind other high end rooms. The tables and chairs are in top notch shape. There are TVs, but they are small and some seats have an obstructed view. All tables have automatic shufflers. Players can order food to the table 24 hours a day. While there is drink service, players may not receive comped shots of liquor while at the table. Players may receive a massage while at the table, but players cannot use their comps to purchase them. Poker players may use the valet service free of charge, including tip. The poker room will give players a $3 voucher to use when tipping the valet.

Smoke and Noise Levels When Playing Poker

The poker room ranks about average for smoke. The room is somewhat walled off by different parts of the building, but it still borders the casino floor. A nearby nightclub causes some excessive noise from time to time during major party hours.

Comps Offered to Poker Players

In addition to the valet tip, players can expect the typical $1 an hour when clocked in with their M Life card. The $1 an hour may be used for hotel room charges or food. Poker players that average four hours a day will qualify for the casino rate in the hotel. The discount is 20% off of the advertised rate.

Alternatives to Texas Holdem at the MGM

Every Tuesday there is a $120 HORSE tournament. In addition to the tournament, a HORSE game may break out after players bust out. MGM Grand will spread any game if there is enough interest.

MGM Grand Poker Tournaments

The poker room at MGM Grand offers two No Limit Texas Hold’em tournaments each day. The tournaments start at 11:05am and 7:05pm. Each morning tournament is a $60+$20 with 6000 in tournament chips and 20 minute levels. The evening tournaments are also $60+$20 Sunday-Thursday, but on Friday and Saturday the tournament is $100+$25. This tournament starts with 10,000 in tournament chips and has 30 minute levels. Players may late register or reenter these tournaments during the first six levels. On Tuesdays at 7:15pm, there is a $100+$20 HORSE tournament. Levels move up every 20 minutes. Each game is dealt 8 times before moving to the next game.

MGM Grand also offers the Grand Challenge Tournament Series. Events include No Limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha High/Low, Seven Card Stud High/Low, HORSE, Pot Limit Omaha, and Pot Limit Omaha High/Low. The entry fees range from $125+$25 up to $1500+$100 for the main event.

Waiting Lists

The MGM Grand Poker Room uses the Genesis Poker System for waitlists, as well as player clock in for comps. They do not share this information with the Bravo Poker app. While the MGM Poker Room is on Twiiter @mgmgrandpoker, they only tweet about tournaments. Players must call or show up to the poker room to find out what cash games are running. Players may call in advance to get on the waiting list for games.

Location of the Poker Room in the MGM Grand Hotel

Players arriving from Las Vegas Boulevard can enter through the front doors and walk past the entry retail area. The poker room is just ahead. Players that come in from the pedestrian bridge from Tropicana must go down an escalator that ends right across from the poker room. Players coming from the New York New York pedestrian bridge should go down the escalator and make a right. The poker room will be just beyond the bar and retail area. When coming from valet or taxi drop off, make a left. Follow the left wall of the casino floor. The poker room will be on the right.

While there is a Las Vegas Monorail Station at MGM Grand, it is in the back of the massive property. To find the poker room, follow the walkway to the casino floor. From there, follow the left walkway past the front desk and table games pit. The poker room will eventually be on your right. The walking distance is 10-15 minutes from the monorail to the poker room.
