Review of Bodog’s Software

Bodog have their own proprietary software and are one of the few sites that aren’t a member of a larger network these days. Their tables are designed with minimalism in mind and the dark red theme is one of the easier ones to play on for long periods of time. The recent update means players are now able to play up to 20 tables at a time and the lobby comes with an array of useful filters to get rid of games that don’t interest you. One controversial element to the update is the introduction of anonymous tables. These were introduced to stop people using tracking software to collate statistics about your opponents and when you’re playing at Bodog now, the only reads you’ll have are the ones that you develop in that session. The other feature, which we mentioned above, is the rabbit cam which will show you the cards that would have came out had you continued in the hand. This is a popular request at live home games and it adds a dimension of fun to the games at Bodog that you don’t get elsewhere.

Playing at Bodog on a Mac or Linux Machine

The old version of Bodog’s software used to feature an ‘instant play’ option which allowed you to play on a Mac or any other operating system which supported flash applets. However when they updated their software, they abandoned their non-Windows player base by removing the in-browser version of the game. At present, it’s unknown whether they intend to bring it back or not.

Bonuses and Promotions at Bodog

Bodog offers new players the all-important first deposit bonus, but they go above the amount most sites are willing to offer; you can get 100% matched up to $1,000. You have 60 days to clear the bonus in total, and you earn $1 for every 10 Poker Point that you earn, with the bonus being released in chunks of $10, $40, $100, $150, $300, and $400 as you go. When playing for real money at the site, you earn 3 points per dollar in tournament fees that you pay, and roughly the same in cash game rake. As well as the first deposit bonus, they also give you 6 tickets for freerolls where the prize is an entry to the big Sunday $100k guaranteed tournament. They don’t have too much in the way of ongoing promotions other than the Royal Flush bonus which pays out up to $200 and the bad beat bonus which pays out up to $1,000 if you lose with Aces full of Kings or better.

Banking at Bodog

Bodog will accept deposit by credit card, eWallets like Skrill and Neteller, Laser, Noreda, and Giropay. They’re stricter than most sites about their finances and credit card depositors may be asked to verify their identity. When it comes to withdrawals Bodog allows withdrawing by credit card excluding Mastercard, Skrill, and Neteller.

Bodog Poker’s Game Selection

While Bodog used to be a much bigger site before it lost all of its American players to the UIGEA legislation, they still have a good number of games running. They currently sit just outside the top 10 for poker traffic and have almost the same amount of traffic as the Microgaming network, which is impressive given they’re an independent site. At peak times, you’ll get up to 2,000 cash game players and there are also tournament running day and night. Because it’s a slightly smaller site, the tournament field sizes are a nice size and means you won’t be playing for hours on end before you cash. As well as the ever popular Texas Holdem, they also offer Pot Limit Omaha, Omaha hi/lo, 7 Card Stud, Stud hi/lo, and 5 Card Draw. The action at the Holdem and Omaha tables usually tops out at $1/$2 or $2/$4 and there are usually a good few tables of $0.50/$1 and below running in the evening time. The highlight of the weekly tournament schedule on Bodog is the $100k guaranteed tournament which takes place on Sunday afternoons and has a buy-in of $150. The tournament often falls short of the guarantee and has an overlay. Plenty of cheap satellites run all week long for the tournament. They also have satellites for major live events like the World Series of Poker and the Asian Poker Tour.

Bodog Poker Summary

While they might have fallen a bit since the middle of the last decade when they were one of the biggest poker brands, Bodog is still a pretty good place to play. Tournament players should definitely have an account there to take advantage of the very soft field and potential overlays in the Sunday $100,000 guaranteed tournament.
